Bouldering

Bouldering Club 2026

The OGHS Bouldering Club and Resistance Climbing Gym have teamed up to offer regular bouldering sessions. Details are subject to change from term to term or as needed.

***Resistance Climbing Gym is moving to a new location. The exact date is yet to be announced, but it is expected to be sometime in April/May. The new move could result in changes to the days/times/cost. Updates will be posted on the Climbing and Bouldering Google Classroom as they become available.

Dates and Times:

Every Friday, meet at Resistance Climbing Gym after school. Students are responsible for making their own way to the gym. All students are required to sign in at the front desk. We have an open bouldering session until 4:30pm, but students may leave early or stay late if desired.

Coordinate pick-up/departure with your parents/caregivers.

Equipment and clothing:

Most members of the Bouldering club will have their own shoes. If you need to borrow shoes from OGHS, there will be an additional charge of $15 per term. Shoes will be issued to the student for the term and must be returned at the end of each term - or by arrangement with the TIC.

Note: a $150 fee will be charged for lost shoes.

If anyone forgets their shoes, please coordinate with Daniel Bleckinger to borrow some for the day, or bring $5 to hire from Resistance.

Chalk will be provided or you may bring your own.

Wear comfortable and flexible clothing appropriate for climbing. You may either change immediately after school or use the changing rooms at Resistance.

Bring a water bottle and maybe a snack.

Supervision:

There will usually be an OGHS staff member present at the gym until 4:30, but this may not always be possible. You will always be under the supervision of the Climbing Gym staff and expected to follow gym rules. You are welcome to stay as late as you want past 4:30, but an OGHS staff member will not be present.

Cost:

Fees will be charged per term. Fees may be subject to change from term to term or when the new gym opens.

- Option 1: Fridays only

Terms 1, 2, and 3 will be $100. Term 4 will be $70 (only the first seven weeks).

- Option 2: Fridays plus gym membership.

$155 per term

This will cover the Friday after school session plus allow you unlimited access during any regular staffed hours. Plus this would include the usual benefits of a membership, being 10% off retail purchases, 15% off climbing shoe purchases, a 1/2 price guest pass and 1/2 price shoe hire ($2.50, rather than $5 per day).

Holiday Membership:

Only available to students with a gym membership - continue your gym membership through the two week term holidays for only $20. Summer Holiday membership may also be available.

Registration:

Space is limited to a maximum of 15 participants.

To register, watch for notification on Google Classroom. Spots will go fast.

You must re-register each term. Registration will open roughly half way through the prior term and will be announced on the Google Classroom. Priority will be given to returning Bouldering Club members, Climbing Club members, and then first-in-first-served for any remaining spots.

You must also fill out two permission forms

  • OGHS Climbing Consent Form (not required if you have filled one out for any other climbing activity)
  • Resistance Climbing Gym Waiver (only required before your first ever visit)

Note on climbing shoes:

If you have been climbing for a little while and think you will continue to climb, it is highly recommended that you get your own shoes. When buying shoes, talk to a professional to get them fit properly - they should be slightly uncomfortably tight and should be worn with bare feet or a very thin liner sock.

Remember - we get discounts at Bivouac. Talk to DBK if you want to know more about shoes or our discount.

Other Notices:

Notices and updates will be posted on the Climbing and Bouldering Google Classroom. Use the invite link or join using the code (b44z4xv).

If you are interested in outdoor climbing, make sure you check out the information on the Rock Climbing Club website.

Competitive Bouldering

Watch for notices, training schedule, and registration information on Google classroom.

- NIBS Bouldering Series - Dunedin - June 27

- Other venues if there is sufficient interest, otherwise, travel on your own.

Sports awards (including Blues) are to recognise those who have shown dedication and commitment to the OGHS climbing community through service, coaching, and/or competing at a high level on a school team.

Students who compete independently or as part of a club team are generally not eligible for school Blues. We would strongly prefer you to climb with the school throughout the year, but some dispensation may be possible. If you climb independently and hope to represent the school at a competition, please consult with Daniel Bleckinger well in advance of the competition. Approval may be granted on a case by case basis. A minimum requirement would be training with the school prior to the competition and other checks as appropriate.

Please see the OGHS Sports Information Handbook for more details.
